The Act
‘Act I’ is the first of a new series of kiln cast objects that explore the theatre of process through the concept of ‘Embodied Digital Craftsmanship’. This term encompasses the practice of using hands-on craftsmanship to navigate and sculpt within the digital world, fostering a sense of craft agency and creativity. This object represents the world's first VR-created 3D printed lost PLA core Kiln-cast object
Shine
Shine puts ancient traditions of representation in a new digital context, which, while it provides on the one hand, a ‘true’ optical likeness, on the other, has its own disruptive mannerisms and modus operandi. Shine addresses the wide spectrum of art, craft and design practitioners and questions how people perceive technologically crafted objects
Blown
Blown integrates traditional and digital practices, and in doing so creates a kind of craft that is more dynamic. Blown forces craft to be less monumental and more of an occurrence. Rather thanks distinct piece, Blown is an approach that invites viewers to create their own digital pieces by using the simple action of blowing a cup of teas. Blown is dynamic and democratic craft.
The Secret Life of Shadows
The Secret Life of Shadows expresses the unseen physical trauma an object feels during the ‘event’ of its function. What if a perfume bottle could breathe? We could see it inhale with pride, exhale and deflate. By giving a human characteristic to a static object we can start to create the narrative of their Secret Lives.
Eclipse
Eclipse is a further study by into encapsulating the ephemerality of time and motion. The triptych of sculptural lights materialize the erratic ephemeral traces of a moth circling three light source for 5 seconds. Each trajectory has been created through 3D motion capture gathering the phototactic behavior of a moth.
